Cal’s Gentlemens Nursery

I
wanted to have an eclectic feel to Cal’s nursery. We decided to go with
the traditional blue with hints of gray in it. The actual color is
called Newport Blue. We also painted the ceiling fan blades the darkest
shade of blue that went with the Newport Blue color line.  I didn’t
originally intend to have an animal theme in his room but we got so many
animal themed baby items at our shower that it kinda just happened that
way. The bamboo swinging chair was a piece that my parents have had for
over 30 years! They sell similar ones at Pier One Imports. I got the
beige chair pad at Pier One since we didn’t have one. Another key item
in our nursery is the antique changing table. This came from my Great
grandmother. It is a Berkey and Gay piece and we think it was originally
some kind of radio table. We ended up sanding it down and staining it
with danish oil to give it a nice finish. I loved the variation in the
wood which is why I decided not to paint it. Overall, the whole decor in
the nursery were things that we already had or things I had found at
great prices at different stores.

Here is a list of things we have in Cal’s nursery:

Crib- Craigslist Find!…80$
Moses Basket Bassinet- Hand-Me-Down from the family I nannied for… 0$
Changing Table- Antique piece given to us by my great grandmother…0$

Swinging Chair Pad- Pier One Imports (with 10$ off coupon)…30$
Bird Lamp- Homegoods on sale for 29$
Graco Duet Connect LX Swing + Bouncer- Baby Shower Gift (can be found at amazon.com)
Frog Bank- Pier One Clearance Find!…10$
Rug- Homegoods…99$

“C” metal wall art- Homegoods Clearance find…7$
Summer Infant Changing pad-Amazon.com…14.99$
Beige Changing Pad Cover-Walmart find…around 8$
Vera Bradley Black Baby Bag- Shower gift (can be found at The Paper Store)
“CAL” Boat and Tote Bag, Zip-Top- Shower gift but I believe is from LL Bean. (This will come in handy!)
All
in all you can see we didn’t spend an arm and a leg on items for our
nursery! I love how it came out and it was worth all the researching and
stress trying to put together the perfect nursery in my brain! We also
decided to put a mini fridge in his room so we can store his breastmilk
seperatelely from the rest of the house.  This will really come in handy
when I need to get a quick bottle on the go in the middle of the night!

Here are our baby Cal’s gentlemens nursery from start to finish!

My Top Ten Baby Items List (PRE BABY)

1.) Beaba Multiportion Freezer Tray

These trays are designed for making homemade baby food. Not only are they cute and colorful, but they are so easy to use! After filling them with your fresh homemade baby food, just put them in the freezer. Once they are completely frozen, pop each portion out into a ziplock freezer bag and repeat! These can also be used to make homemade mini popsicles for a hot sunny day by just adding in a popsicle stick before freezing!

2.) Contours Options 3 Wheel Stroller

This stroller is adorable and affordable! I love all of the options this stroller gives you. Start out by just using the infant car seat adapter for convenience when traveling with an infant. (The seat on this stroller reclines as well if you want to use the regular seat with your infant.) Once your baby is out of the infant seat, you can use the regular seat and choose to have it facing towards you or away from you. It comes with two mommy cup holders and one for baby as well. My favorite part of this stroller is how easy it is to maneuver.

3.) Vera Bradley Convertible Baby Bag in Classic Black

I have always been a fan of Vera Bradley, however I always find myself getting sick of the print that I pick after a few weeks. They make a baby bag in black now. You can never go wrong with black. Especially when dealing with children! This bag is so cute, everyone compliments me on how cute my “purse” is. The inside is surprisingly roomy with plenty of pockets and
a wipeable lining. It can be carried as a handheld, crossbody, over the shoulder or as a backpack!

4.) Fisher-Price Healthy Care Deluxe Booster

After nannying for twin two year olds, I decided I wasn’t going to buy a regular highchair. I had to basically hose down these highchairs every week to get them clean. Dried leftover food grosses me out. I did some research and found this Booster seat. It is completely dishwasher safe; each piece comes apart to make it all fit into the dishwasher at once. Need I say more?

5.) Skip Hop Alphabet Zoo Activity Gym

I think the colors were what originally attracted me to this activity gym. I love how soft it is and the fact that it came with an infant tummy time pillow! I also loved the fact that it was 100% cotton.

6.) Aden + Anais Muslin Swaddle Blankets

These are my all time favorite swaddling blankets. They are so soft and keep baby so warm and snuggly without overheating them. You can use them as a swaddler, drape it over a stroller or infant carseat as a sun shade, tummy time blanket, burp cloth, etc. This is also 100% cotton!

7.) JJ Cole Urban Bundle Me – Stealth

Having your first baby during the winter in New England can be a little intimidating. I keep worrying about if he’s going to be warm enough or not. I’ll probably end up overheating him by accident because I’ll think he’s cold all the time! This Bundle Me by JJ Cole is going to be perfect for our little nugget. It’s like a little sleeping bag for your infant. It can go in both your car seat and stroller. I also love how it matches my Vera Bradley baby bag! The inside is so incredibly soft it makes me wish they made a matching one in my size!

8.) Graco Sweet Slumber Sound Machine

I was so excited when I got this for my baby shower. I was looking everywhere for a sound machine that also plugged into an ipod. This Sound machine has tons of options for white noise as well as a bunch of nursery rhymes. It has a nightlight at the top and a timer option on the front that will automatically shut it off. A smaller ipod fits perfectly in the bottom of it. We bought our little one his own ipod shuffle to keep in there with all of his Rockabye Baby lullabies on it.

9.) Munchkin Shampoo Rinser

This rinser is designed perfectly. It’s super flexible so you never have to get soap in baby’s eyes.  It can hold a good amount of water so I use it to fill up the infant bathtub for bath time.

10.) Infant Optics DXR-5 2.4 GHz Digital Video Baby Monitor with Night Vision

This was a great find. It was one of the highest rated baby monitors on Amazon and it’s super affordable! I really wanted a video baby monitor without having to spend hundreds of dollars on one. This monitor gives you the quality of all the other baby monitors without having to pay the price.

About me and how I got here!

First comes love, then comes marriage
BABY! Is that how it goes? Apparently it does for me. My life has
suddenly taken a left turn and I’m convinced this is all just a dream.
(One I have dreamt of many times before)
On that note, let’s start from the beginning… Throughout my
existence, I have always had a strong maternal side. I can’t count how
many children I have babysat or nannied full time for. I have helped
raise a lot of children to say the least. I went to college at the Art
Institute of Boston at Lesley University for two years before I moved to
Florida. I wanted to finally find out what it was like to be on my own
without the financial support of my parents. (Spring break might have
helped a bit too..) I moved to Florida without knowing anyone which was
incredibly scary to do at 19, but I went with it.

—————–>Now we can skip ahead to where I meet Jesse, and am instantly head over heels for this man. For our first date, he picked me
up from my mothers cousins house and I felt as though I had fallen in
love for real, right then and there. He was the most beautiful man I think I have ever seen. He took me to the beach where we
sat on a blanket and drank wine and obsessed over how crazy it all
was for me to move to Florida without knowing anyone. It finally hit me that I had really left my life behind and started
a new one in Florida. Jesse, being the romantic that he is, brought
chinese lanterns for us to light off as we made a wish. Obviously, I am a
cheesy sap and wished that I would marry Jesse and eventually
have a family with him someday. And it just hit me as I write this now, that
some wishes actually do come true. There was a lot that Jesse and I have gone through since then. A
brief breakup, a cross country move to California, a few of my pets that
have come and gone, the list is endless. We finally moved in together
last July. I’ve never been more close to anyone in my entire life. He’s
my best friend, the love of my life, and sometimes even my mentor.
So here is where I announce that I am about 6 weeks pregnant with our
child! Oops! Did I leave out the wedding part? Nope! It hasn’t happened
yet, and we are in no rush to do so now that I am carrying our baby.
Yes, I would have loved to have done it in the “socially correct” order,
but this, I believe, is God’s plan for us; and I am ready to take on
any turns he has for the road ahead.
And here I am, blogging and pregnant at 1:08 a.m with an early day
ahead of me. And I swear, I’ve never been happier than I am now.
